There were constraints on the types of fonts I could use, with the tool I had found to add text to animated gifs. But perhaps I should get back to Gimp to get all the freedom we need.
Yes, agreed about the stronger font and the italics. Example frames... with other fonts? Of my choice?
I think the effect on the string you're mentioning is the reflection of the pendulum weigth, on the frame, behind, that coincides (but not always) to the string, from our angle of view. Or you're talking about stg else?
The reflection I was looking at is there in the examples above - I think it is a relected light off the pendulum? Anyway, there could be two...
None of these examples seem to me to be better than the present fonts. I don't see the advantage in going to yellow for one thing - it makes the logo look 'old' and faded. The seriffed font likewise on 'Investigations' also looks sort of oldie worldie. I suppose Thomas is trying to match the oldie worldie image! But we should be careful not to blend in too effectively.
There are so many fonts, perahps Thomas could just present a few ooptiosn and then we first settle that issue? As I say, I like the present font for 'Philosophical' but I thought "investiagiotns'could be improved. Euphemia perhaps? But what do you two think.
Thank you, Perig. I see that the newest version of GIMP (2.8.16) automates animation with GAP. However, it looks as though this is not yet available for my Linux distribution:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done gimp is already the newest version (2.8.14)
Don't panic. Search for 'Philosophical Investigations', and PI is absolutely lost in a sea of identical titles. A new name will make it distinctive. 'Philosophical Annotations' is a name which is not taken. It reflects humility, in that an annotation is merely added to the original text. It beats 'Philosophical Revelations' or 'Philosophical Tittilations'. 'Philosophical Explorations' is already taken.
As for the image, the original represents a harmony, a balance of the human, the scientific, the aesthetic, and so on. It is very clever. It also has a balance of muted colours. That is why I selected a light beige and dark grey for the title. These colours complement and balance the upper and lower halves of the image. I also softened the harsher black border in most cases to a dark grey. Euphemia? I think we live in different computing worlds, Martin. Mine is Linux.

I thought a stronger font, but definitely the italics seem off... Could you post underneath some example frames mebbe too?
The light sounds good. There is one effect there already on the 'string' though?

Experiments added. I use GIMP. Apparently there's an automation plugin for GIMP animation, but I haven't found it.
